Heading to Austin for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas (COTA)?

If you’re looking for a hotel in Austin, the Capital City offers any number of good options, from brand-name accommodations to charming bed-and-breakfasts. We’ve narrowed it down to our five favorites, which run the gamut from budget to splurge and are located conveniently close to both downtown Austin and the Circuit of the Americas.

Hotels close to the circuit (airport area)

If you’re looking to stay as close as possible to COTA, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport area is your best bet. These hotels are about 15–20 minutes from the track and offer solid convenience:

  • Hyatt Place Austin Airport – Spacious, modern rooms and free shuttle service.
  • Hampton Inn & Suites Austin-Airport – Reliable, clean, and known for friendly service.
  • Hilton Austin Airport – Located in a converted terminal building with historic charm.
  • Holiday Inn Express & Suites Austin Airport East – A popular, family-friendly choice.
  • Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham – A more affordable, basic option.

These hotels tend to book out early for race weekend, so secure your room in advance if proximity to the circuit is a priority.

Downtown and central Austin hotels

Want to enjoy more of what Austin has to offer when you're not at the track? Staying downtown gives you easy access to nightlife, restaurants, and live music.

  • JW Marriott Austin – Stylish, centrally located, and often part of F1 Experiences hotel packages.
  • The Driskill Hotel – A historic landmark with timeless Texas luxury.
  • Austin Marriott Downtown – Modern, comfortable, and walking distance to Austin’s best spots.
  • Westin Austin at the Domain – In a quieter shopping and dining district in North Austin, popular among fans.

These hotels are 25–35 minutes from COTA, so plan on taking a shuttle, rideshare, or driving to the track.

Official F1 Experience hotels

You're booking a hospitality or VIP ticket package, likely it includes accommodations at one of these premium hotels. They often offer race shuttles and concierge support during the weekend:

  • Renaissance Austin Hotel
  • JW Marriott Austin
  • Westin Austin at the Domain
  • Austin Marriott Downtown

These are ideal for fans who want everything taken care of in one package—transport, tickets, and lodging.

Camping near the track

If you want to stay as close to the action as possible—or enjoy the social side of race weekend—camping might be for you.

Premium RV camping (on-site)

  • Located inside the circuit, near Turns 11 and 12.
  • Includes full hookups (water and power), paved spots, and premium views.
  • Access to restrooms, showers, and a great trackside community.
  • Note: These are very limited and sell out quickly. Often resold at high prices.

Lot N dry camping (fan favorite)

  • About a 10-minute walk to the main gates.
  • Basic setup with no hookups, but great vibes and social atmosphere.
  • Facilities include portable toilets and limited showers.
  • Affordable and very popular—expect a festival-like experience.

Whether you're bringing a camper van or pitching a tent, camping is one of the most immersive ways to do COTA.

How to choose where to stay

Choosing the prohibitive of the accommodation selection comes down to what kind of experience you want. If you prioritize accessibility, you can’t get any nearer to the festival grounds than the on-site camping option.

However, I realize that not everyone dreams of showering in a trailer and living like an urban raccoon for seven days. In that case, I would suggest getting a hotel room. My top picks for a hotel room put you within a 15-minute Uber or Lyft ride of any X Games event, and that includes a ride across the river from downtown Austin to the festival area.

Cost will also be a consideration. Hotel rates during Formula 1 weekend increase drastically, and you may find the most sought-after lodges demanding a three-night stay. If you insist on meals at such places as Franklin Barbecue and Uchi, or if you plan to check out the post-race concerts, there's no alternative to staying in close quarters with downtown Austin, which is the only way to guarantee easy access to dinner reservations and the nightlife.

There's also the matter of getting around. While some hotels and package deals include shuttle service to and from the track, others may require you to rely on rideshare apps or drive yourself. After the race, traffic can be as thick as your darkest winter coat, so plan on a good half hour—if not more—to get from COTA to wherever you might be headed next.

Tips for booking your accommodation

  • Book early – Hotels and camping spots fill up fast during race weekend.
  • Use official shuttles – If your hotel offers race-day transportation, take it.
  • Plan your budget – Hotel prices increase significantly during F1 weekend.
  • Consider ride-hailing times – Expect traffic and long wait times right after the race.
  • Check cancellation policies – Plans change—be sure you can adjust if needed.
