Miami Grand Prix is in a sunny paradise, but can also get to hot.

Formula 1 is a global sport, which means fans experience a huge variety of climates across the season. Some races are comfortably cool, while others test not only the drivers but also the spectators with intense heat, humidity, and blazing sunshine. Knowing what to expect—and how to prepare—can make the difference between an enjoyable weekend and a draining one.

This article highlights the hottest F1 races for fans and offers practical survival tips for making the most of them.

Singapore Grand Prix

The Singapore Grand Prix is notorious for its heat and humidity. Even though the race takes place at night, gates open in the afternoon, and fans spend hours queuing and walking in the tropical climate. Average daytime highs hover around 31–32 °C, with humidity often above 80%.

Outside food and drink are not permitted, but you can bring one empty bottle (typically up to 600 ml or 1 L depending on the year’s rules) and use the refill stations inside the circuit. Staying hydrated and taking shade breaks are essential here.

Qatar Grand Prix

In 2023 the Qatar Grand Prix was held in October at Lusail, and was one of the most demanding races on the calendar. Temperatures could still reach 32–37 °C, and humidity levels add to the challenge. In 2023, several drivers struggled physically in the extreme conditions—proof of just how hot it can be for everyone at the circuit.

In 2024 the race was moved to late November, which drastically helped the heat issue. Tempratures now are much better and can even get a little chilly during the night action on track, but at the same time it can be really warm. So, for this race you just have to be on your toes and be ready with clothes for the weather.

For fans, organizers provide water stations and free bottles across the venue, but it’s still smart to bring your own empty bottle to top up regularly.

Miami Grand Prix

The Miami Grand Prix in May is hot and sticky, with average highs around 28–30 °C but a heat index that feels higher thanks to Florida’s humidity. Add in the concrete stadium surroundings and minimal shade, and it can feel intense for spectators.

Miami allows factory-sealed water bottles (up to 20 oz/590 ml) and clear reusable bottles, plus refill stations are available inside the venue. Long queues can form, so filling up early is wise.

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

The Jeddah Corniche Circuit sits right on the Red Sea coast. Even though it’s a night race, the climate is humid and temperatures remain high, typically around 27–30 °C in the evening. Combined with large crowds and limited airflow in grandstands, it can be surprisingly draining.

Bahrain Grand Prix

Another desert race, Bahrain runs under the lights but doesn’t escape the daytime heat stored in the tarmac and grandstands. Average April highs range from 26–32 °C, and while the air is drier than in Singapore or Miami, fans should still expect very warm conditions during the afternoon and early evening.

Hungarian Grand Prix

The Hungaroring near Budapest is famous for its bowl-like layout, which traps heat and gives fans little shade. July and August temperatures average 27–28 °C, but heat waves regularly push above 32–35 °C. Fastway1 was at the race in 2022 and trust us when we tell you that it was extreamly hot.

The good news is that Hungary allows fans to bring up to 1 L of liquid into the circuit, and there are free refill stations around the venue. However, we encountered a major safety issue in 2022. On raceday, all refill stations was empty and even all water and non-alcoholic drinks was sold out. So, there was nothing left to hydrate with. We believe this issue has been adressed since then, but that was a red mark for us.

Other hot races

  • Spanish Grand Prix (Barcelona): June can bring both heat and strong sun exposure, with limited shade in most stands.
  • Mexican Grand Prix (Mexico City): Air temperatures may not be the highest, but the altitude and strong sunlight can make the stands feel much hotter.

Survival tips for hot race weekends

  • Hydrate constantly: Bring the maximum amount of water allowed into the circuit and refill often. Add electrolyte powders or tablets to replace salts lost through sweating.
  • Protect yourself from the sun: Use high-SPF sunscreen, wear a cap or wide-brim hat, and bring sunglasses. Light, breathable clothing makes a big difference.
  • Take breaks: Step into shade or indoor areas whenever possible, especially during midday hours before the main race sessions.
  • Plan for general admission: If you have a GA ticket, arrive early to claim a shaded spot. Popular areas fill quickly.
  • Watch for heat illness: Signs include dizziness, nausea, cramps, or confusion. If you or someone near you experiences these, seek medical staff immediately.
