Going to the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku can be a great Formula 1 experience — not just because of the racing, but also because of the effortless way one can get around. The Baku City Circuit is right in the center of the city, making it that much easier for fans to get to the track.

There are a multitude of options when it comes to transportation, and those options can suit a variety of budgets and comfort levels, which is pretty much the way I like it. You may be staying in the city; you may be coming in from abroad. Here are the best ways I know to get to the track and to get around race weekend itself.

Metro: fast, cheap, and easy

Of all the alternatives available, Baku's metro system is one of the simplest and most efficient ways to get around during race weekend.

  • Nearby underground stations include 28 May, Sahil, and Icheri Sheher. All are an easy walk from the circuit.
  • Longer hours: The metro generally operates for as long as 20 hours on each day of the Grand Prix weekend.
  • Intelligent ticketing: Rely on a BakiKART—offered in both reusable and single-use configurations—for seamless entry through subway and coach services.
  • Fan responses: Metro travel is commended for being smooth and easy. There are numerous suggestions by fans to stay close to Old Town for both a walkable experience to the metro and the circuit, as well as for the generally good vibe in that area.

Bus and shuttle services

Several bus lines and free shuttles during the event in Baku help the fans get around with minimal hassle.

  • Race day bus routes: #5, #53, and #65 move regularly and stop in proximity to good access points around the circuit.
  • Shuttle service on concert nights: There is a convection shuttle service from the Baku Crystal Hall to the circuit on concert nights (Friday–Sunday). This serves to shuttle concert-goers during the evening deep into the later hours along the same route as the Bus of the Baku Crystal Hall.
  • Aero Express: Airport transfer options are available and reliable, connecting the airport to central metro stations like 28 May and Koroglu.

Walking: the best way for many fans

Since the Baku City Circuit is part of the blended surface, many fans walk to the race.

  • Key accommodation: Hotels in Old City, Fountains Square, and Baku Boulevard offer short walks to the venue. Accessible. All spaces in the venue are reachable, and some hotels provide accessible accommodations.
  • Signage and volunteers: When streets are closed, it is clearly marked. Diversion points are well staffed with volunteers who help fans find their way.
  • Fan comments: Attendees say that walking gives them the best sense of the race day energy in Baku, especially with so many fans moving through the same streets.

Taxi and ride-hailing services

Baku has reasonably priced taxis; you can also use international ride-hailing apps.

  • Local taxis: Cabs styled like those in London are common in Baku. They offer metered fares that are usually between 4 and 10 AZN (roughly €2 to €5), depending on where one is going in the city.
  • Uber: Accessible throughout the city, Uber provides dependable pricing and sidesteps the need for negotiation—often a favorite among users from abroad.
  • Airport taxis: The cost involved with going to or coming from the airport is usually between 15 and 20 AZN, but the safer bet is to use transport arranged by your hotel or Uber, as street taxis can be overpriced.

Flights and arriving in Baku

Reaching Azerbaijan is quite easy for global supporters, particularly those hailing from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

  • Direct and nonstop flights: Baku has great connections with airline companies such as Azerbaijan Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Qatar Airways.
  • Visa details: Nationals from numerous nations are able to request an eVisa, which usually gets processed in a short span of days.
