The Monza Italian Grand Prix Festival isn’t just a race; it’s a full-blown vintage festival of speed, passion, and unforgettable experiences. Known as the "Temple of Speed," Monza delivers a race weekend that goes far beyond the actual race. The on-site activities serve as more than just appetizers before the main course of the Italian GP; they immerse fans in the world of Formula 1.

From sim racing and pit stop challenges (you’d better do as well as the Scuderia AlphaTauri interns did if you want any chance of making it into the Alpine F1 Team), to driver appearances and live entertainment, this is what we in the business call a "vibey outdoor hospitality experience." And then there’s the post-race track invasion. Here’s everything you can expect to enjoy during race weekend at the Italian Grand Prix.

The fan zone: Monza Cento

At the core of the fan experience is the Monza Cento Fan Zone, an expansive entertainment center in the Roccolo meadow that sits between two crucial sections of the track. It’s free for all ticket holders and is a place for everybody to come together to enjoy. More than 30 booths offer something different for everyone; games, exhibits, food, and merchandise. You could easily spend several hours just in the Fan Zone.

You can immerse yourself in racing simulators, pit stop challenges, where you try to change tires on race cars, the official F1 team gear that you can buy, and all manner of Italian street food while a DJ rocks a stage. It is an electric scene, especially on race weekend, when the live crowd hangs out in the sun, soaking up the vibes between sessions.

Sim racing competitions

Do you think you can manage Monza like the professionals? If so, put your racing mettle to the test in the sim zone, where fans go wheel-to-wheel on the official F1 Video Game. Each day the top three scorers qualify for a championship round and have the chance to win prizes. The championship environments are set up as authentically as possible. Even with these setups, it is impossible to convey fully the adrenaline rush of driving Monza. Still, this is a pretty close second.

Pit stop challenge

The Formula 1 pit stop experience puts you in the role of an F1 mechanic. Grab a wheel gun, rally your friends, and see how quickly you can change tires on a life-size mock-up of a Formula 1 car. You're under time pressure and have to execute fast, so it's a great way to bond with fellow fans while getting a hands-on feel for the sport.

Driver appearances and interviews

The Fan Zone holds live appearances by F1 drivers and team principals on the weekend. It is a space packed with fans hoping to get a good photo op with their favorite drivers and score an autograph. These are not private sessions, and the energy in the Fan Zone is fueled by the hopes of thousands for a brief, convenient, and up-close moment with F1 royalty.

Over Friday and Saturday casual interviews, fun games, and Q&As take place with drivers from nearly every team. In terms of pulling in the fans, however, nothing comes close to the spectacle put on by the drivers from Ferrari. They draw in so many local fans that it's almost a riot to see them. If you want to see them up close—and get a good view of them— I'd recommend getting there at least 15 minutes before they come out.

Ferrari heritage displays

Monza makes no bones about being Ferrari’s home Grand Prix. In recent years, Ferrari has brought its Le Mans--winning 499P Hypercar and other iconic racing machines to the Monza circuit for fans to see up close. These special displays are a big thank you to the fans for their support and a way to flaunt that iconic motorsport lineage only a few countries can claim. The only thing that would make such displays better is if fans could climb in and take a ride.

Team and sponsor booths

It isn’t only Ferrari. Other teams and F1 sponsors have their own draws. Red Bull may have a show car, Pirelli might have an exhibit on tires, and the drinks brands might have lounges with a theme. These fairly standard diversions add some variety to the day and, along with the F1-ness of it all, provide good reasons to be on-site.

Food, drinks, and merchandise

Starving? The food courts at Monza serve up an eclectic mix of Italian staples and international snacks that you can inhale between one-on-one meetings and confabs in the shaded seating areas. There are pizza, pasta, and sandwich joints, and gelato and espresso bars, with plenty of chilled local craft beer in hand. The Monza food courts deliver a mix of midday necessities and local flavor, with a few hidden gems worth seeking out.

If you're an F1 fan, you'll want to visit the official F1 Superstore and team shops to stock up on all the necessary paraphernalia. There's ample opportunity to buy well beyond what's listed as "official"—from caps and T-shirts to all kinds of collectibles and limited-edition items. Even if you don't buy anything, it's an experience well worth the time.

Live music and entertainment

The vibe around the weekend is heavily influenced by music. The Fan Zone has live DJs going all day from morning till night, creating a ferociously festival-like atmosphere. Saturday night is usually capped off with a headline concert, kind of like the festival’s after-party. It is a fantastic way, post-qualifying, to wind down the day and enjoy a concert with a lot of other F1 aficionados. And again, Saturday night isn’t always a low-key concert.

The legendary track invasion

An iconic Monza tradition is the post-race track invasion. As soon as the checkered flag drops, fans can come onto the main straight to celebrate under the podium. For the next five minutes, the track is open to fans who want to join in one of the most passionate celebrations in all of motorsport.

When you find yourself close to the main straight at the end of the race, seize the opportunity to be part of this truly unforgettable moment.
