Transport options to the Mexico Grand Prix

Reaching the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for the Mexican Grand Prix doesn't have to be stressful if you know the best ways in and out. With tens of thousands of fans filling the streets every day, your transport can be the difference between arriving relaxed to the race and arriving hot, tired, and late.

Metro – fast and affordable

The fastest and cheapest route to the motorsports event in Mexico is via the Mexico City Metro. This underground railway system serves the densely populated Mexico City with 12 routes, including Line 9 (Brown), which stops at Velódromo, Ciudad Deportiva, and Puebla—all just a few short steps from the gates of the racing circuit.

Because the Mexico City Metro is an electrified railway, the service runs from early morning until just after midnight with trains spaced about 10 minutes apart, or closer together if you happen to be near the Ways and Means Committee's flagship train (Line 12, or "Golden Line"). Fares range from 5 to 10 pesos (about 25 to 50 cents), hardly a barrier to entry.

Metrobús – avoiding traffic

For those near the southern part of the circuit, the Metrobús Line 2 (Purple) is a prime option. Stops like UPIICSA and El Rodeo are equidistant from various entrances. The Metrobús line is entertained in its own right-of-way—no vehicles allowed—that bostes absurdly good times. Indeed, on race days (or any high-traffic day), this bus skips much of the car and taxi traffic that skunks those two modes of transport.

Shuttle services from across the city

During the Grand Prix weekend, the city often operates direct shuttle buses from key locations such as Estadio Azteca, Plaza Carso, Hipódromo, Expo Santa Fe, and Auditorio Nacional. Tickets are inexpensive and can be paid for using the rechargeable mobility card.

Some private companies, like Ticket2Ride, also run shuttles from specific meeting points—useful if you want a guaranteed seat and a more comfortable ride.

Ride-hailing and taxis

Services like Uber and DiDi, along with official taxis, are popular for door-to-door transport. Drop-off and pickup zones are set up near Gate 15 and along nearby avenues. This can be a good choice if you’re traveling in a group or carrying items, but be aware that post-race traffic can add significant delays.

Walking to the track

If you’re staying in neighborhoods like Roma, Condesa, or Centro Histórico, the circuit is about a 5 km walk. On cooler days, this can be a pleasant option—plus you avoid the post-race crush entirely. Just allow extra time if you plan to walk back in the evening.

Why driving isn’t worth it

During the Grand Prix, there is no public parking at the circuit, and the roads around it are jammed with traffic. If you haven’t arranged for private parking well ahead of time, it’s safer to vacate your vehicle and seek other means to the Grand Prix.

Pro tips for a smooth trip

  • Buy a rechargeable Metro or Metrobús card before race weekend to avoid long queues.
  • Leave early for morning sessions—crowds build quickly after 9 a.m.
  • For the trip home, consider staying a little longer to avoid the immediate post-race rush.
